I never knew if I wanted to be a part of sorority life, both my mom and grandma were members of sororities but they never pushed me to do the same. I came to Cincinnati in the fall of last year as a freshman just excited to start all over again. I made a few friends in my dorm and they were all rushing. So, I figured if nothing else, it would be a good way to make a few friends even if I didn’t end up joining a house.

Sisterhood Spotlight: Gabi
I joined the Ohio Kappa chapter of Pi Beta Phi in the fall
of 2014. This was my sophomore year in college and I just transferred to the
University of Cincinnati. My family moved to Georgia and I was kind of lost and
trying to find my way in a new city without anyone I really knew. Pi Phi has
taught me so much about friendship and loyalty, as well as the importance of
leadership and involvement with organizations. I do know that I want to be a part of something bigger
within Pi Phi as well, which is why I plan on running for the executive board this
coming fall 2015.

Sisterhood Spotlight: Meghan
When
I came to UC, I had a horrible time adjusting to being so far away from home. I
only knew a handful of people and didn’t know where I would fit in. I went
through recruitment completely blind. I’m one of the first in my family to
attend college and the first in my family to go Greek! This meant meeting new
people, the opportunity to make a difference through service and finding my
home away from home. I had no idea that joining Pi Phi meant so much more than
all of that. Pi Phi has brought me incredible friends, role models, and a
network of sisters. The friendships I’ve already made in Pi Phi will last a
lifetime. Without my big and my roommate, I probably would have left UC. The
women in our chapter truly inspire me to achieve and go beyond my personal and
professional goals. I know that whenever I have a question about my major, a
class, another student organization or even a job there is someone willing to
help.

Sisterhood Spotlight: Maggie
Growing up, there weren’t too many people in my family who
hadn’t gone Greek. I come from a family with a Phi Mu, a Theta, a few Tri
Delts, a Phi Delt, a Delt, and most importantly a Pi Phi who happens to be my
mom. When I came to the University of Cincinnati, I was having a hard time
figuring out where and what grouped of people I belonged with. I knew I wanted
to go through Rush. My family members always spoke so highly of Greek Life and
I knew it was something I wanted to participate in.

Going into my freshman year I knew that I wanted to go
through recruitment. For me being part of a sorority meant branching out to
meet new people and having a place that I could call home throughout my college
career. I joined Pi Beta Phi in the fall of 2013 and I am so grateful that I
did. I wanted to be a part of something bigger than me, but I never expected Pi
Phi to play such a huge role in my life. From my freshman to sophomore year, I
have gained so much confidence in all aspects of my life and I have all of my amazing
sisters to thank for that. One of the best parts of Pi Phi is the genuine friendship
that I have found here. Even though my Pi Phi family is small, I am so lucky to
have them in my life. They are my role models and I know that I can come to
them with any problem and they will support me no matter what.

TAKE Self Defense 2015
On January 17th Pi Beta Phi at the University of Cincinnati hosted a self-defense class for the second year in a row. Students from UC could attend the class for a $5 fee to donate to our philanthropy, First Book. The program, T.A.K.E., offers a two-hour seminar on how to be more aware, ways to keep yourself safe by thinking ahead, and self-defense moves that anyone can do.

My Pi Phi Home
Ohio Kappa is a home to women from all over Ohio, but also all over the world. From Philadelphia to Spain, Pi Beta Phi has truly become a home away from home for it’s members. Located in downtown Cincinnati, campus life is very urban and fast paced. It’s easy to feel home sick, no matter if you are two or 10 hours away. Ohio Kappa has created a sisterhood so strong that all of our sisters get a sense of home, right here.

Red, White and Greek 2014
This year's Greek Week theme was Red, White and Greek! From March 30th to April 5th, the Greeks at the University of Cincinnati celebrated our community, and raised money for the American Cancer Association. Throughout the week, events were hosted such as volleyball, a belly flop competition, and pies in the face.

TAKE
Very recently, in the long history of Pi Beta Phi, a sister of our own was murdered. Her parents, not wanting another family to go through the horrible stresses that come with this tragedy decided to take action and a stand against violence. And so, TAKE was born. Traditionally held on campuses with a chapter of both Pi Beta Phi and Sigma Phi Epsilon, this was UC's first experience with the program.

Spirit Week
Every year, sororities across the nation prepare in different ways for their recruitment process. At the University of Cincinnati, our Angels hosted "Spirit Week" the days before students returned to campus. Taking place of a full time job, girls took the opportunity to rejoin forces. Spending countless hours reconnecting and telling tales from this summer, our bond with Pi Phi, and with each other, grew before our eyes.
The first day of Spirit Week was spent on campus with the other seven NPC Sororities on campus. Phired Up, a dynamic recruitment seminar spent the day teaching our sorority women how to better recruit the girls they were actually looking for. It was an experience that girls truly enjoed, and it taught the older girls new and exciting ways to recruit.
To further our experience, VP of Membership, Alyssa Vah, created an Olympic Theme for us to follow. Each bump group was divided up into an Olympic sport and "competed" against the other bump groups. We even dressed up as the players of our given sport, and the house was decorated with Olympic athletes. Each lunch break we gathered in groups based on families or bump groups and headed to the restaurants of Clifton. Needless to say, this was a week full of high spirits and pep.
