On March 1st, the Pi Beta Phis at the University
of Cincinnati hosted our annual Fraternity Day of Service. This Dr. Seuss-themed event took place at the
Cincinnati Museum Center at Union Terminal, and this year's event fell near
the famous author’s 111th birthday!
With many activities such as coloring buttons, building truffula trees,
and taking pictures with the Cat in the Hat, it was an event that was exciting
for both the Pi Phis and the kids.
Vice President of Philanthropy, Mallory Widecan, dressed as
The Cat in the Hat and took pictures with the kids at

The Fraternity Day of Service was open to kids and their
parents who came to visit the Cincinnati Museum Center. In one room, the Pi Phis helped the children
color and press buttons with pictures of Dr. Seuss characters on them. The kids also had the opportunity to make
their own truffula trees – a tree made with feathers that mimics one of Dr. Seuss’s
famous drawings. As sophomore OH Kappa
Olivia Behrens said, “I really enjoyed working closely
with the kids while we built truffula trees.
The activities were a fun way to promote literacy.”
Another activity we had gave the kids an opportunity to
interact with therapy dogs. The dogs, in a room filled with Dr. Seuss books, inspired the children to
read aloud to them. Whether the kids read Green Eggs and Ham, Oh, the Places You'll Go, or any other Dr. Seuss book, the pups listened while the children got to practice their reading skills. The therapy dogs were a great addition to this well-rounded event.
The OH Kappa chapter of Pi Beta Phi Fraternity Day of
Service was very successful this year.
With a little something for everyone, there was never a dull moment. The event showed our community how important it is to promote childhood literacy. Thank you to everyone who made Fraternity Day of Service such a success. Every child,
parent, and Pi Phi left the Cincinnati Museum Center with a smile on their face
and a truffula tree in their hand!
